How to change your surname after marriage in Australia?

Captured by Dustin Ling

Your name is literally your identity so the below information on how to change your surname after marriage is super important to be across - especially if this is something you and your partner may want to to do now or in the future.

When you get legally married in Australia your celebrant can, on your behalf, order your 'Official Marriage Certificate' - this is required for any name changes.

At CWS ordering of your Official Marriage Certificate is already included in both my Tailored Package and the Just the Legals package - so you know you are completely covered.

Even if you haven't made a decision around changing either or both surnames, I still suggest requesting this certificate from whichever celebrant you go with - so you are covered and don't have to worry about ordering it at your own cost ($70) in the future.

Updating your name across banks, your licence, ATO, superannuation, utilities and more can take 10+ hours of admin & research. If you are looking for a way to cut down that time by 90% or more - Easy Name Change may be an option for you.

Easy Name Change makes it simple with personalised kits, pre-fills the necessary paperwork and provides useful checklists. My couples love the amount of time it saves them and how it ensures any issues around your name/s are reduced or completely eliminated. If you’re interested, check it out using my affiliate link.

Alternatively, if you are an admin pro (go you!), you can check out details on how to do it yourself via NSW Government right here.
